COMPASSION

INTRODUCING A NEW APPROACH TO PATIENT CARE, COMMUNITY AND NEUROSURGERY

The Importance of Compassion

“Often times my family members ask me, ‘What is the most important thing for me to look for when I’m choosing my doctor or a surgeon?’ I always tell them to choose a doctor they trust and one that recognizes and acknowledges the immense humanity in what we do.”

–Lawrence Daniels, M.D.
Director

Meet Victoria!

“Before, Victoria was not verbal. Now, she says her ABC’s, and is beginning to put together sentences. Where she once didn’t notice her brothers, she’s now hugging and kissing them. And instead of walking she is running…Its a huge difference—unbelievable,” says Victoria’s mother Susan. “Dr. Daniels took his time, he studied her. He made a miracle.” Read Full Article

COMMITMENT TO OUR PATIENTS

At New Neurons our staff understands the gravity and humanity involved in treating patients and families in their most vulnerable times. We believe this humanity supersedes all aspects of the business of medicine. Thus, it is our policy to never turn away a patient because of his or her insurance status.

COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY

Additionally, we believe it is our responsibility to positively impact the quality of healthcare in our communities.  We therefore engage with our fellow providers by giving neurosurgical lecture series to the pediatricians, internist, emergency medicine doctors and neurologist in our communities. We also give back to the community by going to local schools and giving workshops to students in order to spark their interest and encourage them to pursue careers in medicine and science.

LECTURES FOR M.D.s

We are constantly looking for opportunities to exchange with other physicians and providers in our community. Feel free to call our office and set up a meet & greet or a lecture luncheon.

GRADE AND HIGH SCHOOL

We develop programs for high school and grade school students that provide them the opportunity to become neurosurgeons for a day…after they finish our mini medical school of course.

Pediatric Conditions

Pediatric Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is a disorder that involves the accumulation of fluid in and surround the brain. A natural byproduct of normal brain function is the creation of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Under normal circumstances the brain reabsorbs CSF as fast as it is created. The continuous creation and reabsorption of CSF lead to its steady state CSF in the head at any given time. Hydrocephalus occurs when there is an imbalance between the rate of absorption and creation of CSF, thus leading to an accumulation of fluid and pressure. Learn more…

Pediatric Neuro-Oncology

Pediatric nervous system tumors are the most common solid pediatric tumors and often the most difficult pediatric tumors to treat. We harness advances in surgical techniques, chemotherapy and radiotherapy to care for patients with complex tumors of the nervous system.

Pediatric Spine

Disorders of the pediatric spine include a wide range of diseases. These diseases include congenital, developmental, traumatic and neoplastic disorders. The treatment of pediatric spinal disorders requires a significantly different approach from that of adult spinal disorders. A multidisciplinary team involving social workers, child life specialists, pediatric neurorehabilitation, and pediatric neurosurgeons are prepared to manage the most complexed disorders.

Pediatric Epilepsy

When one thinks of neurological conditions in children, epilepsy quickly comes to mind. That’s probably because there are more than 2.5 million Americans living with epilepsy today.

Craniofacial Surgery

Congenital and or acquired deformities of an individual’s cranium, head, neck, face, jaws and related structures are primarily treated by pediatric neurosurgery and plastic surgery. These are the branches from which the craniofacial surgery subspecialty derived. The defects often treated by craniofacial surgery are isolated and syndromic craniosyntosis, Crouzon’s Syndrome and Apert’s Syndrome.

Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery

Neurosurgery is inherently traumatic to the nervous system and involves risk of injury. Minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as endoscopic skull based surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery, offer the opportunities to minimize the trauma of neurosurgery, reduce the risk of injury and lessen recovery time.

Pediatric Stroke and Vascular Surgery

No one is truly safe from the occurrence of stroke as it can occur in anyone without warning and regardless of age (unborn babies, newborns, children, teens and adults). The risk of stroke is particularly high in a baby’s initial year of life prior to birth and after birth. Stroke is one of the top 10 causes of death in very young children.
